GESTRA BK 37 BIMETALLIC CONDENSATE REPAIR KIT

GESTRA BK 37 bimetallic steam traps are designed to automatically discharge condensed water (condensate) from steam systems without live steam loss. Thanks to their bimetallic operating principle, they are temperature-sensitive and provide reliable performance, especially under fluctuating pressure and load conditions. The BK 37 is ideal for high-pressure and high-temperature applications.

Primary areas of application include:

  • Steam Main and Distribution Lines: Efficient drainage of condensate formed in long steam pipelines.
  • Superheated Steam Applications: Particularly suitable for draining superheated steam lines due to the bimetallic regulator's resistance to superheated steam, minimizing steam loss.
  • Heat Exchangers and Process Equipment: Condensate discharge from steam-heated tanks, drying cylinders, presses, and other process equipment.
  • Automatic Air Venting: Automatically vents air and non-condensable gases from steam lines during start-up and operation, thereby improving the heating efficiency of the system.
  • Harsh Operating Conditions: Its extremely robust design, resistant to water hammer, frost, and corrosion, ensures reliable use in demanding industrial environments.
  • High Differential Pressures: Can operate smoothly across a wide pressure range and at high differential pressures.

GESTRA BK 37 bimetallic steam trap repair kit contains the necessary original spare parts to refurbish the internal mechanism of an existing BK 37 steam trap and extend its service life. The steam trap itself is a thermostatic trap that utilizes GESTRA's patented Thermovit® regulator (bimetallic plates). This regulator operates based on the temperature difference between steam and condensate. When cold condensate or air is present, the valve is fully open, allowing discharge. As the temperature approaches the saturation temperature of steam, the bimetallic plates deform, closing the valve and preventing live steam loss.

The repair kit typically includes the following main components:

  • Thermovit® Regulator (Bimetallic Stack): New bimetallic plates, which are the main operating element of the steam trap.
  • Gasket Set: Body gaskets and other sealing elements.
  • Strainer: Internal strainer element to prevent dirt from entering the steam trap and causing malfunction.
  • Possibly Valve Seat and Nozzle: These wear-resistant parts, often made of titanium alloy, may also be included in the kit or available separately.

The repair kit offers the advantage that the internal part of the steam trap can be serviced in-line (without removing the main body from the pipeline), which reduces maintenance time and costs.

  • Repair Kit Contents: Typically includes the bimetallic regulator (Thermovit®), gaskets, and strainer element. Valve seat and nozzle may also be included.
  • Steam Trap Model: BK 37 (or BK 37-ASME variants)
  • Operating Principle: Thermostatic (temperature-sensitive) control with a bimetallic regulator and stage nozzle.
  • Pressure Rating: Up to PN 63 / Class 400 (for BK 37), with BK 28/29 series available for higher pressure ratings.
  • Nominal Diameter (DN): Repair kits are typically available for DN 15, 20, 25.
  • Body Material (of the Steam Trap): The body of the steam trap is usually made of steel (e.g., 1.5415) or alloy steel.
  • Internals (of the Steam Trap): Corrosion-resistant stainless steel, Thermovit® regulator (Duo stainless steel), wear-resistant titanium alloy for valve seat and nozzle.
  • Sealing Elements (of the Steam Trap): Asbestos-free graphite/CrNi body gasket.
  • Operating Medium: Steam, condensate, air, and non-condensable gases.
  • Max. Operating Temperature: Can range between 400°C and 530°C depending on the steam trap model and pressure rating (e.g., up to 470°C for BK 37).
  • Features: Resistant to water hammer and frost, corrosion-resistant, automatic air venting, integrated non-return valve function, can be installed in any position, tight shut-off.
  • Advantages (of the Repair Kit): Extends the lifespan of the steam trap, maintains system efficiency, reduces maintenance costs, allows for quick and easy replacement.
