GESTRA NRG 19-11 LOW LEVEL ELECTRODE 1000 M

GESTRA NRG 19-11 low water level electrode is primarily used in steam boilers and pressurized hot water installations to prevent the water level from dropping below a critical minimum. This is a vital safety function to prevent overheating of the boiler or system, material damage, and potentially dangerous situations.

Key areas of application include:

  • Steam Boilers (Low Water Level Protection): Automatically shuts off the heating (burner) when a dangerously low water level occurs in the boiler, preventing overheating and damage. This is a mandatory safety device for boilers that do not require continuous supervision (24/72 hour operation), in accordance with relevant standards (TRD 604, EN 12952, EN 12953).
  • Pressurized Hot Water Installations: Similarly, in pressurized hot water systems, it disables the heat source in the event of a low water level.
  • Industrial Process Tanks: Providing an alarm and shutdown function in industrial process tanks where water or conductive liquids must be maintained at a critical minimum level.
  • Functional Safety Applications: When used in conjunction with compatible GESTRA level switches (e.g., NRS 1-50) in systems requiring a high safety integrity level (SIL), it can achieve a safety level up to SIL 3.

GESTRA NRG 19-11 is a self-monitoring water level electrode that operates on the conductivity principle. It functions as a low water level limiter in conjunction with an external level switch (e.g., GESTRA NRS 1-50). The electrode consists of two concentrically arranged electrodes (a measuring electrode and a compensating electrode) and detects the water level by utilizing the electrical conductivity of the boiler water.

When the water level falls below the tip of the electrode (i.e., the electrode becomes "dry"), a low water level alarm signal is sent to the connected level switch. This signal typically causes the heating system (burner) to shut down automatically, preventing damage to the boiler. The "1000 mm" designation indicates that this electrode comes with a standard length of 1000 mm (1 meter) for its electrode rod, which defines the low level alarm point.

The most important feature of the NRG 19-11 is its self-monitoring function, which triggers an alarm even if the electrode insulation is contaminated, leaks, or if there is a malfunction in the electrical connection. This significantly enhances the fault tolerance and safety of the system and ensures compliance with safety standards. It is specifically designed for high-pressure (PN160) and high-temperature applications.
